Retired to Ride began with a shared love of motorcycles, a spirit of adventure and a meeting that changed everything.
What began as one unexpected encounter on the other side of the world grew into a life filled with journeys, new places, unforgettable people and countless miles on the road.
Today, Retired to Ride is about sharing those adventures and celebrating the people who believe there is always another road waiting to be explored.
JR arrived on his BMW motorcycle. Brenda arrived on her Can-Am.
Two motorcycles. Two separate journeys. One moment that brought them together.
That day marked the beginning of a journey that would take them far beyond New Zealand and onto roads they had never imagined travelling together.
Over the years, their adventures have taken them from New Zealand to roads and destinations across Europe, with every journey bringing new experiences, friendships and stories to share.
Today, JR and Brenda call Spain home, but their travels have taken them through Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, England, Norway and now Sweden.
And there is still plenty of road ahead, with Italy, Switzerland and the USA already on the horizon.
Along the way, JR and Brenda met riders whose passion for exploring had never faded, no matter their age.
They met people with remarkable journeys behind them and plenty more adventures still ahead. Riders who continued to travel, discover new places and inspire others simply by refusing to let age define what was possible.
Those stories became the inspiration for the Retired to Ride Touring Awards, created to recognise the riders who continue to embrace life on two wheels.
Retired to Ride is more than a collection of motorcycle journeys. It is a place for people who share a love of travel, friendship, freedom and discovering what lies around the next bend.
